Formula to Convert Weber to Maxwell
The Weber is a much larger unit than the Maxwell. To convert from Weber (SI) to Maxwell (CGS), you multiply by 100 million ($10^8$).
The relationship is:
$$1 \text{ Wb} = 100,000,000 \text{ Mx}$$
$$\Phi_{(Mx)} = \Phi_{(Wb)} \times 10^8$$
Example
Convert 0.00005 Weber (typical flux in a small transformer core) to Maxwell:
$$0.00005 \text{ Wb} \times 10^8 = 5,000 \text{ Mx}$$
Conversion Table
| Weber (Wb) | Maxwell (Mx) |
|---|---|
| 10-8 Wb | 1 Mx |
| 0.000001 Wb | 100 Mx |
| 0.001 Wb | 100,000 Mx |
| 1 Wb | 100,000,000 Mx |
About the Units
The **Weber (Wb)** is the SI unit of magnetic flux, named after Wilhelm Eduard Weber. It is defined as the flux that, linking a circuit of one turn, produces an electromotive force of 1 volt if it is reduced to zero at a uniform rate in 1 second. The **Maxwell (Mx)** is the CGS unit, equal to one magnetic field line (1 Gauss-cm²). It is named after James Clerk Maxwell.
