About the Units
The ounce (oz) is a small unit of mass used in everyday life, such as for food packaging. The metric ton (tonne) is a large unit used for heavy cargo, equal to 1,000 kilograms. Because of this vast size difference, it takes over 35,000 ounces to make just one metric ton.
